We know many traditional shavers appreciate the classics, and our Shave Soap Bar certainly offers that more traditional shaving experience—indeed, soap bars have been utilized for thousands of years. However, when comparing shaving methods, understanding the difference between a cream and a soap is crucial for achieving superior shave.

A Melty Moisture Layer

Shaving creams, like ours, are specifically formulated to provide moisture and lubrication, not a bubbly lather. Ingredients in the cream are similar to what you would find in a whipped lotion. When applied to the skin, it melts and creates a moisture layer, which acts as a cushion between the razor blade and your delicate skin. It also softens the hair itself, making shaving less painful, and allowing the razor to glide easily, which is the goal of all traditional shave aids.

While both our Shave Cream and Shave Soap Bar are excellent options for shaving, they serve different primary functions, particularly regarding those with sensitive skin. If you struggle with irritation when using a traditional shaving product, the cream might be a good alternative for you.

Best Suited for Sensitive Skin

For those with delicate or sensitive skin, the formulation of a shave cream offers unparalleled protection. Our commitment to natural, plant-based products ensures the ingredients used provide soothing and hydrating benefits.

Ingredients often associated with high-quality whipped moisturizing creams, are known for being effective and gentle on sensitive skin:

  • Shea Butter: A moisture powerhouse - full of anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe irritated skin, making it a great choice for pre and post-shave care. It's also rich in vitamins A and E, which promote healthy skin and can aid in reducing the appearance of razor bumps.
  • Coconut Oil: This oil possesses anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, and antioxidant properties, making it an excellent choice for preventing irritation linked to shaving.
  • Aloe Vera: Aloe vera has long been recognized for its medicinal properties and well known to moisturize and treat irritated skin. In this recipe, we use a concentrated powder, which is easier to work with while providing the same effects.

By providing deep hydration and a slick texture, our Shave Cream gives you the cushioning needed to prevent nicks and irritation, making it the ideal product if you have sensitive skin.

Nailing the Shave Cream Application

To ensure you get the closest and most comfortable shave possible with your Shave Cream, follow these essential steps:

  1. Hydrate Your Skin: Hydration is key to a successful shave. It’s easiest to start with wet skin from the shower or bath, before you shave. This helps to soften your body hair and remove dirt, which aids in preventing irritation.
  2. Apply the Cream: You need to apply enough of the cream (or lotion alternative) to adequately cover the skin you intend to shave, but start with a very small amount - You can always add more.
  3. Shave Carefully: Move your razor blade gently over the skin. Shave in the direction that your hair grows. You should rinse your razor blade after each swipe to maintain cleanliness and effectiveness. Using a sharp razor also helps prevent nicks and irritation.
  4. Maintain that Moisture: After you have finished shaving, it is always a great idea to continue to hydrate your skin. You can either pat the skin dry, adding another light layer of cream to your damp skin, or use another aftershave or post-shave moisturizer.

Happy Shaving!
