Magnesium. It's everywhere these days – touted as a miracle cure for everything from muscle woes to sleepless nights. Magnesium 101: Your Body's MVP

Think of magnesium as your body's ultimate multitasker. This mineral is involved in over 300 functions, from keeping your muscles relaxed to helping you snooze soundly. We get some magnesium from food (think leafy greens, nuts, and avocados!), but deficiencies are pretty common with our American diets. That's where magnesium spray comes in.

So, What's the Spray About?

Magnesium spray is a topical solution containing magnesium chloride, a form of Magnesium that is easier for your body to absorb through the skin. The research on magnesium spray is still catching up, but some studies show promise. One study even found that spraying magnesium oil helped ease symptoms of fibromyalgia, a chronic pain condition.

But, you should know large studies and peer reviewed research around what is called transdermal application of magnesium (applying magnesium oil on the skin) is still hard to come by! We are still learning how and why this application process works! But in our eyes, the risks of it not working for you are pretty low, and the benefits can be pretty awesome! 

Should You Spray It or Skip It?

Curious about giving magnesium spray a try? Talk to your doctor first! They can advise you on whether it's a good fit for your individual needs. Here are some extra tips to keep in mind:

  • Start slow! Magnesium spray can sting or irritate sensitive skin. Test a small amount on the bottom of our feet and wait a day before spraying a larger area like your tummy or legs.
  • Avoid sensitive areas or open skin! Avoid irritated skin or wounds and especially any area that is freshly shaved. Magnesium is a salt and stings when sprayed in these areas… you usually only make this mistake once! 
  • Dilute if it’s too much! The tingling sensation can often be a bit much, but don’t let that discourage you! You can dilute it with some water as you first start using it. After a few days using the diluted mixture, try again using at full strength. Usually, over time, as your body absorbs the magnesium, the tingle subsides. 
  • Trying on the kiddos? It’s best to start them with a diluted mixture and apply to the bottoms of damp feet which will help reduce any tingle. 
  • Quality matters. Look for a spray made with pure magnesium chloride and ditch the ones with a bunch of added ingredients. LIKE OURS! 
  • Taking some medications? While rare, magnesium may interact with certain meds. If you are taking medications, be sure to speak with your doctor before giving magnesium spray a go.
